The March Classic Duathlon has always been a very important race for our NYC triathlon community. Being the first duathlon in NYC and taking place in the world most iconic city park, it draws in many participants, and from all over the world as well. The race marks the beginning of the racing season for many triathletes. For those just starting out, this is also their first duathlon event.
The race starts and finishes by the Central Park Boat House parking lot. Both Runs are 2.2 miles each, in out/back format. You run along the east side and making a U-turn around a cone by the 96th street. No significant elevation gain other than at the beginning you have to run up the Cat’s Paw hill.
The bike route consists of riding 2 loops around the Central Park drive. Due to the current construction in the Harlem section of the park, riders traverse to the west side on the 102nd street. Total of 10 miles. The total elevation gain, about 250ft per loop, is still a challenging route for most athletes.
