We encourage participants to review this option in order to be prepared for any unforeseen issues. The New York Triathlon Club is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to producing triathlons, duathlons, and multi-sport events for educational purposes, racing, physical fitness, and recreation throughout the tri-state area. Each season we incur non-refundable expenses and upfront costs, e.g. permits, insurance, storage, rent, and donations to participating organizations.

Packet Pickup and Late Registration

Approximately a day before the event, you can look up your race bib number. If you arrive at the check-in and do not know your number in advance, you may look it up in the alphabetical list posted near the registration tables. Only competitors may pick up their numbers in person and with a photo ID. Please have your ID handy. You may not pick up a race packet for anyone else. Please do not get in line for check-in if you do not know your race number or if you are not registered. You can register on the day of the race.

Bib Numbers, Timing, Awards

When you receive the packet, verify that your personal info on the label is correct. The label is affixed to the bib number. Notify officials of any mistakes prior to the race. There are four identifiers (bibs) for triathlon, and three for duathlon. There are requirements on how to wear each. (Consult the link). The ankle bracelet is for swimming. The large adhesive label goes to the front of the top tube of your bicycle. The small adhesive label goes to the front of the helmet. Use safety pins to attach the run number on your front. Do not fold the magnetic chip. In the end, when you leave the transition area, show the identifiers to the security staff. After you leave the transition area, you may discard all identifiers. We don’t collect them.

Results
Results will be posted on www.NYTRI.org and here on this site as well.

Awards Ceremony
Awards will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd competitors overall and in 5-year age categories; 18-80+ (men), and 18-70+ (women).

Bike Rules

No recumbent bikes are allowed.

Helmets

  • Riding without a hard-shell helmet will result in immediate disqualification.
  • Penalties will be assessed for unsecured helmet chin straps leaving or entering the transition area.
  • Helmets must be ANSI, SNELL or USCF approved.

Lane Restrictions

Cyclists must stay out of the recreation/joggers lane at ALL times. A four-minute penalty will be assessed if you enter the restricted joggers’ lane during any part of the course. This is a safety measure and will be strictly enforced. Police will issue tickets to offenders.

Drafting Rules

Riding in a pack and drafting is a serious violation. A distance of three bike lengths from the bike in front of you must always be maintained. You may not be closer than this distance for any period exceeding 15 seconds. If you are, you will be assessed a two-minute penalty for each infraction.

If another competitor is drafting you, yell to him to stop drafting. If you wish to file an official complaint regarding drafters, you must record their race number. A competitor who has three drafting reports filed by other competitors will automatically receive a two-minute penalty.
